South Asian Bridal Accessories

Have you attended different kinds of weddings before? Is one of them inspired by South Asian weddings? Because as far as anyone is concerned South Asian wedding follows different rituals, traditions and they take weddings really seriously. Because with all the rituals and ceremonies, they cannot miss any of the most important situations, because they are being paid to capture all the rituals and even the smallest details on the wedding, as part of the details are the accessories that can be seen on the bride. Such as,

  • Bridal Earrings

From their legends, evil spirits can enter the body through openings and their ancestors implies that Ornaments can prevent it from happening, so earrings for the bride is a must to protect them from evil spirits.

  • Bridal Rings

In South Asian wedding, the couple’s wedding ring should be placed on the third finger, in the left hand of the bride, because with the fact that it is a priceless ornament, Ancient Romans believes that the veins in the middle finger has a direct connection to the heart.

  • Bridal Anklets or Payal

This is a traditional piece of Ornament that literally announces the arrival of the bride in her husband’s house in coordination with its twinkling sounds.

  • Bridal Bangles and Bajumband (Armlet)

From the time of their ancestors, glass bangles have been representing a charm of safety and luck for married woman’s husband, although the colors and designs of the bangles varies from region to region. In the region of Bengal, mother in laws give their daughter in laws with iron bangles that are plated with gold. In the region of South India, brides are given green bangles as a symbol of fertility and prosperity. In the region of North Indian, brides wear a chooda set of ivory and red bangles. Another great ornament worn by the brides are Bajumband or armlet, it is a must have accessory for kings and queens from the past which represents strength and the ability for virtues that are very vital for the brides.

  • Bridal Kamarbandh

This is known to be a seductive ornament, because this is a beautiful belt that could add a touch of grace to the bride. The belt is design in a way that could hold a bunch of keys which signifies authority to the part of the bride’s new home.

  • Bridal Necklace or Haar

This is an ornament brides wear during their wedding day, the necklace is made up of gold with a heavy design on them. One of the necklaces that will be worn by the bride is the mangalustra; this is the neck piece that will be placed by the groom around her bride’s neck during the wedding ceremony.

  • Bridal Toe Rings or Bichiyas

This is a small ornament worn in the toes, which symbolizes marriage and is made in decorated silver and is worn in pairs for both foot.

  • Bridal Maang Tikka

This is a hair accessory worn by the bride which has an ornamental hook at the center part of the hair with a pendant falling in the center of the forehead. The point where it falls believes to be the ajna chakra which means to know or perceive.

  • Bridal Nath or Nose Ring

This has been a very old custom where in nose ring has been said to have an acupuncture benefits, woman who have piercing on the left side experience less menstrual pain and easier child birth and it is believed that woman are no longer virgin once their husband took off their nose ring.
